October 7, 2026

Irish businesses, farms, schools, community organisations and non-profit organisations can now access enhanced support towards solar PV installations through the SEAI Non-Domestic Microgeneration Grant.
From 7 October 2026, the grant has been temporarily increased to an effective 45% of eligible costs, giving businesses an opportunity to reduce the upfront cost of installing solar while generating more of their own electricity.
The enhanced rate is available for new applications made between 7 October 2026 and 6 July 2027, providing a nine-month window for businesses considering solar.
The Non-Domestic Microgeneration Grant (NDMG) is an SEAI scheme designed to support organisations installing solar PV to generate electricity on-site.
The scheme can help organisations:
Solar PV systems of up to 1,000kWp (1MWp) can be supported under the scheme.
The enhanced grant is calculated according to the size of the solar PV system.

The maximum grant available is €325,200.
Importantly, the final grant payment is the lower of the grant amount on the application or 45% of the invoiced eligible cost.
A business considering a 100kWp solar PV system could receive a grant of up to €45,200.
A 200kWp system could receive up to €85,200.
A 500kWp system could receive up to €175,200.
At the top of the scheme, a 1MWp system could receive up to €325,200, subject to the scheme's terms and eligible costs.
The Non-Domestic Microgeneration Grant is available to a wide range of organisations, including:

Commercial premises can use solar PV to generate electricity for their own operations.

Solar can help agricultural businesses generate electricity on-site and reduce exposure to electricity costs.

Solar PV can help educational facilities generate renewable electricity while supporting sustainability and climate education.

Community centres and other eligible organisations can also apply. Eligible non-profit societies can access the scheme.
Public sector bodies are also included within the eligible categories.

For many businesses, a significant proportion of electricity consumption happens during daylight hours, exactly when solar PV is generating electricity.
Installing solar can therefore allow a business to use more of the electricity it generates on-site.
This can be particularly relevant for organisations with:
The SEAI highlights reducing commercial electricity costs and improving security of supply among the benefits of the scheme.
The increased support is not an open-ended change.
The enhanced 45% rate applies to new applications made from 7 October 2026, with the enhanced application window running until 6 July 2027.
This makes the period between October 2026 and July 2027 an important window for businesses considering a commercial solar project.
Businesses should follow the SEAI process before starting their installation.
The applicant must select a Registered SEAI Non-Domestic Microgen Solar PV Company and agree a formal contract for the proposed works.
The grant application is submitted to SEAI.
Do not start the installation before receiving your grant offer.
SEAI states that grant offers are valid for eight months from the date the offer is received. Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland
Your installer will also apply to ESB Networks for the connection of the solar PV system to the electricity network.
Once the grant offer has been received and the necessary approvals are in place, the installation can proceed.
The enhanced SEAI support provides businesses with an opportunity to investigate solar while the temporary increased grant rate is available.
Before deciding on an installation, businesses should consider:
How much electricity do we use?
Understanding your current consumption is an important first step.
When do we use electricity?
Daytime electricity consumption can be particularly relevant when assessing solar PV.
How much roof space do we have?
The available roof area and its suitability will influence the size of a potential system.
What could solar generate for our business?
A professional assessment can estimate potential generation, savings and the appropriate system size.
At Fáilte Solar, we work with installers and businesses across Ireland to provide access to solar PV solutions from leading manufacturers.
Whether you're looking at solar for a business, farm, commercial building, school or community organisation, our team can help you understand the options available and how the enhanced SEAI support could apply to your project.
